getting a '91 V6 auto... need ideas

This thanksgiving I'm getting my grandmother's '91. It's immaculate. I've already considered an E32 tranny swap... if someone has done this I'd like to hear about how easy (or un-easy) it was. I'm pretty much planning on driving this car all the time while I work on my '91 Celica, so I want a decent suspension setup. I have access to KYB stuff at work, but if someone has a better setup (higher performance) I'd like to hear about it as well. I also remember hearing about someone bastardizing the TRD supercharger (for the Tacoma and whatnot) to fit the 2VZ-FE... sound familiar/possible to anyone??

Cool

E52 is the transmission for the 2vz-fe. Nothing will fit the 2vz-fe. Just sling a tiny turbocharger off the front bank Run about 220bhp & call it a day.

wouldn't that be unbalanced for the engine? i was under the impression that a small turbo for each of the banks make more sense for V6 engines, so i got a couple Garrett T3's in excellent condition off ebay for $30 each. the wastegates are set to 7 psi boost each. now i just need to figure out where to place them. on the 2vz-fe, the stock exhaust manifolds seem like they're already designed to work with turbos, and it has a low 9.0:1 compression ratio, and i heard it has strong internals. the stock fuel system also runs rich. perfect!

that's what it says in the specs and also on wiki. and a 2.5L engine only producing 159 HP makes sense that compression is probably low.

i think i'm going to try toysrme's idea of turbocharging just the front bank. it would also solve the problem of the restrictive exhaust. and there is so much space. if you remove the battery to the trunk, you could fit almost another engine in there!

E52... right, sorry about that... typing fast and late at night. I think the suspension is probably a more realistic upgrade... need more ideas than KYB though... I KNOW people have suspension upgrades, I just want to hear what make and what kind of expense...

2nd Generation

Hey man whats up. I have a 1991 camry V6 5 speed and i just got done with the suspension work. I ordered some intrax springs for a 1991 camry but a 4 not a 6 so it sits lower and orderes kyb gtr2 struts from on line all for about 65 each n 220 for the springs. I also had a auto but i sold it. I had a custom weapon-r intake, exhaust and lowered. The same for my 5 speed now.

Do a search in this forum...there are quite a few posts on the topic. JetSpeedCamry has done all the work, and he was nice enough to post instructions and pics...

A supercharger for a 1991 engine? Do that and it'll probably blow up

Nope, a turbocharger. And you'd have to try pretty hard to blow one of these up. Or be really stupid and run 22psi like Tony the Tiger in his gen3--though he's pulled it off nicely.

A nice little T3 turbo on the front exhaust bank seems to be the consensus, though you'd have to keep the boost pretty low-five to seven psi, if I recall correctly.

And a newer or rebuilt engine might be a good idea. Just because it still runs nicely doesn't mean it'll like the forced induction. I'd be comfortable putting a small turbo on the spare block I just bought; it has 150,000km on it. Still a baby!

Talking suspension

I have a '88 wagon, 3S-FE and 5 spd. I just put intrax springs, and KYB GR-2 struts, and white front and rear sway bars on it. The best suspension I've had. Firm sporty ride, nice stance. But still comfortable for a daily ride. I give this set up, two thumbs up!
