2nd Generation moonroof mechanical work

Has anyone repaired their moonroof, mechanically?
Ours is either off the track, or the belt is broken.
The motor and manual crank work fine, but don't produce any motion in the roof.
Too bad it is slightly opened!
I'd at least like to close it fully, but before I start removing interior and headliner, I'd like to hear if anyone has any horror stories that might let me leave well enough alone or take it to a pro...

Thanks for any experiences you could share!

negative.
It doesn't move at all when the motor runs.

By tilt, you mean the first portion of movement, right?
If so, it is stuck slightly tilted.

Unfortunately, you have to take it apart to diagnose. It can be guide pins, the drive gear on the motor may be stripped, cable assembly, etc..
Try manually pressing down or side to side with someone else operating the drive gear, incase it's just stuck.

Good Luck!
