It's a clutch job you need. The transmission has to come out, then the parts are exposed for replacing.
You need a clutch disc, a pressure plate, and a throwout (release) bearing. It usually costs about $400 - 500 to have this done, the parts alone with no labor but your own, are about half that, or less.

I found out what it was! apparently it is just the clutch plate, and its over-heating. because it only starts to slip after I drive it hard for a bit. maybe im a bit low on tranny fluid or somethin?

Well, heat is definitely your clutch's worst enemy...but if it's slipping at all, you need to replace it. Simple heating from "hard driving" shouldn't be enough to cause it to slip like that. Get it replaced soon, or you'll be down to the plate rivets and you'll trash your flywheel. Kinda like dominos, you have to fix it before it causes more damage.

Old tranny fluid will not cause such a severe problem. But replace it anyway...it can't hurt.

You need to replace the clutch. All three parts, pressure plate and throwout bearing too, i would never just change the disc. I tried that trick once, when i was broke, i just changed the fruiction disc on my old Chevy Vega, and the pressure plate failed soon after and i just had to do it all again. Yuk! :-P

The only possible wrinkle is if the rear main seal is leaking oil on it too. But i'm betting it isnt leaking, because you would have mentioned an oil leak or smelly clutch.
If you had to though, alot of times you could change this seal without removing the engine or crank but the transmission has to come out. Which it will be of course when you are changing the clutch. At this point it would be painfully obvious if the rear main is leaking or not because of all the oil that would be in there when you yanked the trans out.
