Gen1 V6 in a strait 4 chassis???

Can i just drop a v6 in a USA 2WD 1991 chassis with a simple Ecu and wire harness swap or do i also have to do a drive train swap since the 2 cyl 4WD and V6 seem to have the same clutch which I'm guessing mean the V6 is 4WD.

It's gotta be the hard way

The chassis between the I4 and V6 are the same. I haven't checked, but there is a decent chance that the V6 harness will be very close to plug 'n play in an originally 4-cylinder car.

It'll be very hard to find the correct manual transmission for the V6 (if you are going for a manual), but you can use a later gen E153 (instead of the stock V6 manual E52).

If you can find a V6 donor car (rear end collision), you can get 90% of the way there pretty easily - but it will probably be an auto...

-Charlie

btw. A 4-cylinder manual is just as fast as a V6 auto... (yes, I know for sure)

^ No quite correct. The VZV chassis is indeed different to the SV chassis. Primarily the timing belt side mounting area. A custom mount would have to be fabricated or that section cut out and welded in the V6 mount.
Was it with only 1 time/2 cars that you made the deduction of the V6A being the saming as the I4M? From experience, I can say its not quite true also (with two I4M's to test).

Yes Jetspeed I have only once looked under the hood of a V6, at the car auction one time, adn my 4 is the only 4 I've ever been into. I can see how you might have to get into the timing belt side. The compartments are the same size though.

Its a June of whatever the last year they made them is, I forget.

HAve you ever heard of this swap being done???

I really like the body kit you put on the front. I've deffinanty noticed a problem with wind getting under those corners when it blows across and making the whole front end rock. DOes the body kit solve that problem???

White90x from where does the tranny of which you speak come??? A 2nd gen Camry???
That would be wonderful casue it would broarden the after market clutch options.

See if the V6 swap is feasible I'm gonna build it outside whilst i drive the old 250,000 mile 4 into the ground. Get it resurfaced and honed and forged pistons n all that crap. A new fancy crank. The works. Then have the new tranny completely rebuilt, or try to do it from the instructions in the Haynes manual if the rebuild fee is exorbinante.

Then drop it over a holiday. I've got a full shop with compressor, welder, lathe, drill press, there's room for a hydrolic press and the CHinesse ones at Harbor Frieght are cheap enough. All kinds of stuff I've never rreally had call to use and the Camry I've spent more keeping mint then it's worth to sell to some young punk who'd runb her into the ground. I mean when I got it 4 years ago I had to replace just about every system outside the engine block and head so hte cars practiclyh brand new :P

It's justt starting to take longer and longer to build up to speed, running it for 100,000 miles with massive oil leaks probably wasn't good for the engine Though to be fair I did keep it topped, over topped alot, ever time it leaked out. She still runs like a champ. Turns right over in the morning. Perrs like shes supposed ta. Yes I know kept her mint and ran with oil leaks seems like a contradiction, but I've always kept it tuned up and the plugs changed and hte oils always stayed fresh cause it was getting a fresh 8 quarts a week b4 i finnally broke down and fixed it

Any how this little bastard would make a great sleeper cause the bodies mint and all the auxileries like power steering pump, radiator, steering rack, cv axels, wheel hubs, are all new.

So have you guys heard of this swap being done b4???

if you want to keep it NA.. i suggest you just get a 3sge and put that in there w/o all the headache of mounts and stuff... i don't know how much HP the v6 has but... 3sge comes in many flavors

1st gen 130hp
2nd gen 160 ish hp
3rd gen 180 ish hp
4th gen 200hp don't even think about this one wayyy too expensive just for the motor

^ Agreed. Too much hassle for the V6 with little gain. Swapping in a nice 3sge that 'bolts in' is IMO a far better choice for the SV chassis. 200hp of NA Beams goodness mmmm. (Although i'd rather a V6 anyday hahahah)

You obviously haven't been in a Camry w/ a 3s-gte.
