what's wrong with the old ones? if you want a big brake kit there's no such thing unless you make your own... but the GT4 celica front brakes fit... they're 1' bigger .. but good luck getting them

Are you looking for performance aftermarket brake kitsor simply good quality replacements for the OEM calipers?

BTW: they're BRAKE CALIPERS, not break calibers.

I haven't seen any aftermarket brake kits for our cars. Optionally, you could get new or rebuilt calipers and some brake caliper paint. Cheap way to get decent looking brakes. I think a big brake kit would take a lot of custom machine work to fit.

Unless they are damaged, you don't need to replace the calipers or brake lines... Decent brake pads and new rotors should be all you need.

I have 270hp in my Camry and the stock brakes are adequate still for street driving... (I have front/rear disks from the V6 Camry).

I was getting the impression that there was a bias against toyotas in the tuner/performance marketplace, but the mention of a 270 hp Camry peaks my interest. What are the typical approaches to increasing power output in the Gen 2 Camrys? Are there special cams, pistons, heads, and ecm's?

So, from this thread I learned that we have a lack of aftermarket brakes, and that's the breaks, and if we increase performance, we need not increase the caliber of the calipers.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I think he's got a lot of hard work, scraped knuckles, and a modified 3SGTE engine.

That thing's gotta be stupid fast! Hell, my 1999 Ram pickup with a 5.9L @ 250 hp feels quick. I can't imagine what that Camry must feel like with 20 hp more than that!

2nd Generation 270hp Camry

The 270hp Gen 2 Camry results from transplanting the 3sgte engine from a Celica All Trac or MR2 turbo.

The 3sgte is part of the same family as the Camry 3sfe 4cylinder. However, the 3sgte has a performance head with wider valve angle for better flow, forged bottom end, and it has a turbo.

Swapping in a 3sgte is a big job. Most of us see our Camrys as cheap transportation, so it is rare to see someone do more than talk about it. You can search the forum for "3sgte" to learn more.

For about the same money, you could have really nice sportbike and a stock Camry. For example, I ride a 2005 Honda CBR600RR. For $9k out the door, it does the 1/4 mile in under 11 seconds, has a top speed near 160 MPH, and gets 40 MPG.

Once you ride a bike like that, it is harder to justify modifying a Gen 2 Camry for speed. I think the best mod is to have a 23" widescreen LCD facing out the back window. You could play porno movies on there everywhere you go and really piss people off!

Look ma', no penis!
