91 auto seatbelt track lube?

Does anyone know of what you are suppose to use to lube the track that the auto seatbelt moves on? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would probably use spray silicone lube with a nozzle tube. I've used it on squeaky dashboards and camry upper strut mounts.

Either that or white lithium grease (spray), same that you typically would use on your door hinges and latch.

Ah, my other favorite lube. Spray white lith.

There are a couple of thousand hood hinges out there with my spray lith on them!

The previous owner of my wagon put some grease on the belt tracks. The grease dried out later and caused noise and wear on aluminum track plate. Therefore I would not encourage greasing of the belt slide.

The thing I like most about the silicone spray is the lack of a physical residue as I would find with conventional grease.

Doc, what's the mating part to the aluminum track? Is it a nylon slide or something like that?

It can be bad news when someone greases something like that with the wrong lube. Will probably be alright at first, but then show up later as a problem, as was your case.

There was probably an engineering spec for amount and type of grease when the assembly was built, but quite possibly no spec for maintenance lube.

That can definately be a good thing, especially in an area like the seat belt track.

The belt slide is the actual track itself or the part that slides along the track? I tried some DuPont Teflon lube from Lowe's but the cold weather caused the belt to move slower, possibly from the grease hardening in low temperatures. How has the white lithium or silicone lube work for you guys so far?

What are the different properties between multi-purpose grease and lithium based grease?

I shoved a bit of multi-purp that could also be used as wheel bearing grease (said on the pack) down the steering column since it was out. Although i do remember the manual saying that i should put lithium based grease down there, rather on the bearings.

I reccomend jig-a-loo silicone based lubricant. It got rid of the chatter noise my driver side belt was making. Two weeks in cold weather and its still working good. I used White lithium on my door and trunk hinge which would "pop" when I open/close it.

White Lithium Grease cures all!
Also, WD-40 ain't that bad. =)
