hey whats up people.......if you dont know i have a 89 camry dlx all-trac and i want to change the engine and heres what i found and im not sure wich engine to chose or wich one works a little help would be kool
You can get any of them to work... Don't forget you need a ton of stuff other than just the motor... Wiring harness, AFM, coil, ignitor, etc... Then you actually have to do the motor swap (and associated wiring).

i see that you have one done...is there any way you can give me a list of the stuff i would need to make the motor work and what tranny would i use...i would love to change it to stick but if thats to much work then i dont know if i should bother

Whoa... if you have an auto, you pretty much have to swap over to a manual transmission - the auto will likely not handle the power, and you have to deal with the transmission control (which is at least partially integrated into your current ECU). The 3s-gte was never attached to an auto from the factory.
Get a clip and you will be happier...

I wasn't sure how a front end clip would apply to what he wanted to do. Is that a common way of upgrading a Camry, with a different front end, firewall forward?
ok...im not sure what a clip is.....but you did answer my question....im just going to look for a car with a 5-speed and up grade that and keep this one for parts....but i still need some info on how to go about doing it and what parts i need and what to upgrade....im not going to give up on this
reason you get a clip is to be sure you have EVERYTHING you need. its like having a parts car to pull from.
I think you should do something to the all-trac. youll need to upgrade the transmission anyways if you want to do the swap, oh and btw - look to spend at least $5k on this, and up to double that.

You use the clip mainly for the engine and transmission. Everything (wiring, ecu, ignition system, etc...) is intact, which is not the case if you buy just an engine.
Clips are good for doing engine swaps. IE: 3S-FE to 3S-GTE.
he has an alltrac guys, the camry alltrac trans is as strong as the regular fwd trans that comes in a camry, i think the turbo motor will trash it along with the rear drivetrain, would a v6 swap be a better choice?
there was a guy in FL with an alltrac 3sgte swap... he's not on the board but i'll dig it up later tonight.... see if i can find a URL... i dunno what tranny he used.. may be st205 tranny ?

The AWD auto may be suspect, but the AWD manual transmission is just fine. You'd want to replace it with the one from the donor Celica, but you can use all the stock Camry mounts (if its an AWD manual to start). The rear diff is a drop-in replacment and the axles are find for the power level, as you are splitting it between 4 wheels.
