Starter removal

Problem I've got is, I turn the key, I can hear the solenoid drop, but it doesn't crank. At one stage, if I jumped it off another car, it worked (even though the battery was fine).

Are Camry's known for sticky starters? Or should I be looking at the aftermarket immobiliser?

Forget that, just realised the starter was easier to get to than I thought it was. Hammer test says sticky starter

Any good tips on removal?

You will very likely need to remove and repair the starter, replacing the contacts at the end of the solenoid housing.

Never hammer on modern starters. You can crack the ceramic magnets.

Here is a guide:

Thanks for the info. Going to have to try and find a reasonably cheap UK source for the contacts now :S

Nice to see user-servicable components on a part like that.

I don't remember it being hard to remove. Disconnect positive battery cable, disconnect starter cable, remove two bolts holding starter to transmission...should fall out in your hands!
