suspension (coilovers/struts)

i cant seem to find it, but i thought somebody said a a certain generation of celica coil-overs fit a gen 2 camry

i have a 91` camry, and am doing some extensive modification to it, and im still trying to figure out suspension options

i first thought about getting new OEM shocks and struts, and then add intrax lowering springs, but then i heard that the intrax springs were supposably discontinued.


so it would be nice to just buy a celica coilover kit, and then fit it onto the camry.

I don't think the intrax springs are actually discontinued, i got some very recently actually... I bought them from an online vendor called "SFX Performance" I believe that they had to get the springs shipped to them directly from Intrax itself because when I got the shipping log from fed-ex I noticed the springs were shipped from california, not texas... and texas is where SFX is located.

i was actually looking at sportcompactonly.com where they seem to have them in stock..

so my question now is, is it worth trying to find 2 seperate sets of front/rear coilovers from 2 different years of celica

or

buying the intrax springs and putting them on some OEM or "upgraded" shocks and struts.

cause i think that the second chioce seems like alot less work and money..

I might be the one you are refering to. I had a 1990 V6 auto. I had a set of Eibach lowering springs off my '88 celica. They are a perfect fit in the rear. On the front coils, the top fits perfect, but the bottom is just a hair small, but it will fit and will work. The coil on the driver side didn't seat perfectly straight. So the first time I hit a bump I hear a small pop. It was then seated. I looked everything over after this happened and it was all fine. I put these on the stock shot struts. The car road great, even my 60 some year old mother-in-law said it rode good. With this set up I had about a 2" drop and it made the car level (rear not higher than front). I put at least 40,000 miles on the car after I lowered it, sold it with 201,000, and it is still running around.

I think the springs were pretty stiff, make like that for the celica. The fact that I put them on the V6 wagon with more weight helped lower the wagon more than the celica did. And the extra weight made the wagon ride better. If you have a 4 cyl or a sedan I can't say how it would work out. I also used to load a lot of tools in the back of my car for work, and it never bottomed out. I did trim about 3/4" off all the bump stops.

Now I have a '88 wagon with 4 cyl/5spd. I just put KYB GR-2's (can't remember ordered from tire rack, or advanced auto?) all the way around, Intrax springs (ordered online through Summit Racing), and Whiteline front and rear sway bar (ordered from Global Performance Parts). And I love the way the car rides and handles. This is my daily driver. The car has a cushier ride than my V6 with the celica springs did. And the KYB's valved right and a great match for the Intrax springs.

Here is a pic of the way it sits. My only complain is the back will drop about an inch when I throw about 300 lbs. of tools in the back. But it isn't bad.

If this is so then theoritically coilover sleeves designed for the 88 celica should be able to fit on the camry inplace of lowering springs there for giving us adjustable ride height? Am I wrong because if i'm right I'm going to go after a set of sleeves for an 88 celica and put them on the camry.

have you looked at bilstein for shocks instead of the kybs? ive had good luck with kybs but bilsteins might be a little better...
