2nd Generation 2VZ-FE maintenance

while the upper air intake chamber is off, is there anything else i should check out?

I'm removing the chamber to change the plugs and cables, and i'm checking the primary O2 sensor.

anything else i should be aware of?

Since it's all apart, you may want to clean everything. Throttle body, intake plenum, etc. Also check all of the gaskets on the rear bank. Check the valve cover for oil, either coming from the valve cover gasket or the seal washers on the retaining bolts. Also consider replacing the PCV valve while you're in there. It's cheap and really difficult to replace with the intake attached to the head.

Ah, hell...just give everything a good once-over now that you have so much room back there.

yup...oddly, some of the non-flange type O2 sensors actually are. My buddy works at an auro parts store and we went through different boxes one day to find one that would fit my Camry. Apparently at times "thread type" means "flange type". Go figure.

Clean the jheck outa the crud in there, you'll never get a better chance. I'd soak it in a bucket of simple green overnight if i could, scrub and rinse with water then blow it out with compressed air. Other than that, acetone works great but is dangerous as hell (flammable) but at least it's cheap. Or Seafoam.

I almost forgot , your 2VZ-FE is a V6 right? (I cant keep track of all the alphabet engine soup names). There is a rubber coolant hose under the intake manifold. Toyota says to change it whenever the intake manifold is off for any reason. Might be worth doing it. Image of this hose is below, it is the hose between the two arrows pointing to "gasket" -
