Transmission pops out of 3rd, need new trans or rebuild mine?

Well the car ('88 wagon, 3S-FE, 5spd manual, 136,000) was this why when I bought it. I haven't got around to fixing it yet. It is one of those things where if it works ok for now it doesn't get fix until it is too late. Well I want to get to it sooner than later.

I have called the local yard they want $250-$300, I think that is a rip off. And they are sure if that is a good one. It sounds like there is a lot of problems with these transmissions. And what sucks is I had a trans out of a '88 celica two years ago I sold for $75.

Which brings me to my next question: Is the 5spd bolted to the 3S-FE in the celica the same as the one in the Camry? If not what are the differences?

The previous owner told me the shift fork is bent, I think for 3rd and 4th. 4th has some extra slop too. I'm sure I will need some new syncros for 3rd too. Not sure what this would cost and it would be a good learning experience taking a trans apart. Or should I search out a used but good replacement and just do the swap. I've swapped transmissions in previous cars so this I know I can do with eaze.
