88 Drivers window replacement

I have a project 1988 Camry that has the drivers window busted. Hand crank window. I have a parts car with good glass and needing direction on replacing. I have never done this before and lookin for direction / instructions on replacing the glass.

On the same car the rear door does not open. It did open from inside, until I messed with the child proof switch on the door (what was I thinking?) , Now the door does not open from the inside or out. When I pull the outside handle it doesn't feel like it is connected to the linkage.

THANKS AS ALWAYS. THIS FORUM CONTINUES TO HELP A BACKWOODS MECHANIC IN MONTANA.

As for the rear door, take off the door panel and follow the linkage mechanism to see where the break is. Mines rusted and broke off and I just used a peice of copper wire to connect it again.

I had a 90 Camry. I suspect the front window access is about the same. Basically you take off the inside door panel and there are two bolts holding the window onto the regulator. You remove the bolts and wiggle the window up and out. You probably will need to crank the window back & forth to get access to the bolts. Install in reverse.

I'd practice on the parts car door panel. Locate the screws and clips on the outside. The window crank, the door handle, the latch handle and some screws that have little plastic covers. The latch handle is tricky. There is a screw and then you need to detach the latch from the wire going back into the door. I found that I was able to get a pair of long nose vice grip pliers to hold onto the rod while I wiggled the latch off. Once you have the exterior fasteners off there are several hidden clips that they used to hold the panel to the door. Use a wide putty knife to gently pry the panel away from the door. Two or more clips near the bottom slid back & forth in a slot to release. Some were metal some were plastic. My panel was made of pretty cheap press board that cracked easily. When it is fully detached you lift it up about an inch and it falls out towards you. If you have any power features

you may have wires that need to be undone. If you do they will have clips that need to be released before removing them. You will probably see a large plastic sheet. This keeps rain water off of the panel. Try not to rip it and put it back when you're done with the job.

For the glass, I'd practice on the other car since its window is damaged. The glass is held onto the regulator with two screws. You may need to roll the window up or down to get access to these. Un do these and gently remove the window pane. You may want someone to hold it so that it doesn't fall accidentally. While you're in here, grease up the regulator mechanism so it works nice and easy. Clean the bottom of the door out, etc...

Before you put everything back together roll the window up and down completely. You may need to make some adjustments.

You should be good to go.
