Are you thinking of paying a mechanic, or do you want to do the work yourself? Because the water pump itself shouldn't be more than $30 (aftermarket) or $60 (Toyota part). But paying a pro to do it will be pricey...just getting at it is difficult...

It will probably be a couple of hundred. It is in the same area as the timing belt. I believe that it is driven off of the timing belt but I am not sure of that. Usually, when you go in to do one you do the other in order to save going in again.

For some reason I understand that timing belts deteriorate if exposed to oil or water. If your water pump has been leaking it is quite possible that your belt has be affected. I would say if your belt is possibly damaged or has more than 40,000 miles on it you may want to go ahead and change it out while you have that area open. Also check the tensioner and seals while you're there.

I did my tbelt and pump along with tensioner, crankshaft seal...it ended up to be about $300.cdn in parts alone, i choose to go with parts from toyota, had aftermarket pump lasted about 50k. u should change all belts, if they havent been changed in a while.

if u intend to keep the car for another 60,000 miles i would suggest that u use oem toyota belt and pump etc.
