Driver side window goes down just fine, but needs help coming back up. Previous owner said he thinks it's some sort of white grommet. They are crank windows, btw. What is this likely to be?

The window might be rocking side to side when rolled up and binding. Any grommets would be in the regulator mechanism. This requires removing the door panel to access.
try spraying some spray silicone lube on the glass guides first
I second that motion...if you can find it, try Jiffy-Loo brand...it's awesome and it won't rot your rubber mouldings. If the problem continues then pull the door apart and inspect the window track and tray.

Honda my A$$, you just can't kill a Yota...
Thank you guys for all the info. I'll try lubing and inspecting first, and if lubing doesn't work and there's nothing obvious I'll slap some pictures up here.

When you say it needs help going up is the handle "slipping" or is it just too difficult to turn? If it is hard to turn you may want to take off the door panel and lubricate the regulator pivots, internal slides and gears as well as lubricate the frame slides.
It's kind of hard to turn and when you go to put it back up it rocks forward unless you pull it back with your hand. Eventually it binds if you let it do its own thing.

If the lubricant does not working, it seems that you have a faulty wiring... The same problem I had with my Mazda window regulator... Try to check the wire running from the door to behind the dash board. What is going on is that one side of the wiring is grounding. The wiring applies power to one wire and ground to the other for the window to go up, and reverse on the same wires to go down. What is happening is that the wire that carries the power to go up is somehow grounded and it will give a ground to put the window down, but a little power or sometimes no power to put it up. This problem may actually be in the drivers door. You will need a test lamp and an ohm meter to figure this out, but the circuit is somewhat simple so it shouldn't be too difficult... Goodluck!!!!
