Australia 91 Camry Fan problems

Hi Guys. Just wondering if someone can give me a bit of advice on my daughters car. It a 1991 2 ltr Camery (second gen I thik)
As she has not long had her licence I thought it would be a good first car for her, which it has been so far, What I have noticed though is that when ever you turn the key on, the cooling fan comes on immediatly, no matter if its first thing in the morning (when its cold) or any other time.
My question is, should it turn itself on as soon as the ignition is on? or should it wait till the car warms up a bit?
Is there a way to adjust when it switches on?
As Im not a mechanic I thought I'd leave it up to the people that know....You guys
Thanks again guys
Cheers all
Peter

Hey,

Open up the fuse cover in the engine bay (near the battery) and tap the relays.
If that doesnt fix it, grab another one from a wreckers. (The relays for there application are marked on the fuse cover). You'll be after the ones that refer to "FAN".
Its just sometimes they get sticky.

Mine usually kicks in at around 90 degree coolant temprature..and shuts back off at about 88 degrees. On a cool day/night, they never turn on!

Hi Jetspeed.
Have taken all fuses out and replaced them, but the dam fans still stay on all the time.
Any other suggestions?
cheers

He was talking about the relay marked "fan", not the fuses. The relays are much bigger in size than the fuses. I think he might be correct, the relay may be stuck on so that the fan(s) are running all the time.

Hi Mike
That was my mistake. I meant to say replaced the relays (not the fuses) sorry about that, but still I have the same problem.
Both fans are staying on
Any other suggestions at all what I should check.
Cheers

I would check to see if the previous owner might have circumvented the relay and hard wired it to be constantly on. That was the case in an older Corolla I used to own.

actually, on the 91 Camry there is a relay under the inside passenger side knee bolster that will fail in the closed position and make the fans run whenever the key is on. I had the same problem and replacing that relay fixed it. There are a few threads on the topic.

I have an extra one I'd part with for the price of a good six-pack plus shipping.

Edit to add link: Solved. Both Fans Run High Speed All the Time
