This is kind of off topic, but has anyone ever used their Gen 1 or Gen 2 in a race. I had to once when my race car an 89 corolla awd rally modified was lets say totaled after 2 stages of a 3 stage event back in 1996. I ripped the trans, right driver's side wheel assembly, suspension and part of the floorboard off on the drivers side. I launched on a rut while going around a corner and slammed over a fallen tree

. It scared the crap out of my Co-Driver. She puked after jumping out of the car.
So I used my daily driver 89 LE 4cyld automatic on the last stage. It did pretty good. No way I would ever match the other car, but it held up pretty good.
This was just an amature event with a car club I used to be in. Nothing professional, but Dunlop did sponsor my car and gave me a pull over and free tires just to put their name on the car. It was through a local seller of the tires.
I placed 6th out of 7 entries the last place team was a DNF due to engine failure. They didn't care about me using my daily driver since it was a just for fun event. The DNF guys just didn't bother to get a vehicle to finish. I finished 53 seconds behind the 5th place car on the 3rd stage.
Just one advice tid bit if you plan on taking your camry rallying be careful braking and the E-brake along with throttle helps keep you in control rather than locking up your Non ABS brakes. Just beware of over steer. The stock suspension holds up pretty well, but will break loose quite a bit from roll ,so fast cornering is out of the question when trying to slide it around. If you get the basic concept of the limits it is pretty impressive though. I did better test runs with the camry than I did with the corolla when it was stock. The corolla being lighter was alot more loose when driving and wanted to go all over the place until the suspension was modified.
I have a new 89 Camry LE 4cyld since my parents have the one mentioned above now and this one isn't going anywhere except cruising.
