1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am the proud co-owner of a 87 wagon, and I have been reading here and there about being able to put on the tubular header from a 3sge onto the f head. I have a couple questions:
1. Can this actually be done? does it bolt onto the head/stock exhaust? Does the o2 bolt up?
2. DO the 3sge mani's have egr? If not, what can be/is done about that?
3. What cars contain the manifolds that will work for this application? I'm thinking celica gt-s, is that it? What years?
Sorry fo the nooby questions, but I need some new exhaust, so I figure why not upgrade? My favorite upgrades are always OEM. Thanks in advance for any info.
you will need the exhaust manifold and downpipe. the downpipe will replace your cat, so you will have to get a new cat and have it welded in further down the line.
EGR comes off the back side of the block, so no worries there.
dont expect anything drastic, 10hp in the high end max, probably wont even notice unless you have a manual transmission.

lol, doubt it - only place you'd notice it is in the upper rpm range, which with a auto is hard to utilize and notice power gains.
those manifolds can be tricky to find, but not a bad upgrade if you plan on redoing the rest of the exhuast with it. its a 4-2-1 design, so just make sure you get the downpipe, the 2nd part that goes from 2-1, otherwise youll pay out the ass to have someone make you one.

that mani, a new custom 2 1/4" catback, and a better air filter/cai, along with cleaning the egr system(these are all things i plan to do this summer), would make a good compliment to the new front and rear custom solid 80a durometer urethane mounts I just made/put in. I am just about done with my steering rack r&r/system overhaul, then comes new struts/springs/suspension bushings. Then rear susp./brakes, then the above engine stuff, in order of when I can afford it.
And yes its an auto, and it will stay that way. I might add a cooler at some point, but we'll see how it holds up for now. Damn these forums, giving me good ideas all the time!
and counting. I have two good spare motors though(one with like 80k!), and I would imagine if the trans goes out, I could find one somewhere. maybe the v6 auto trans is an upgrade? who knows, but this has been far and away the most relaible car I have owned, so I don't mind showing it some love at this stage in its life. And its always rewarding the see your hard work pay off,and believe me the steering rack/pump is no easy task when you have to work with the car on (little) jackstands.
All I have to do is button up the tie rod ends, put in new axles, and align. I'm getting lazy.
yea, usually when i do hard work on a car, something catosprophic happens....like new motor in my camry, then 9 months later it imploded on itself. Then the 2nd one i bought, had it for about a month, then it broke down and caught fire on christmas day....
i dont drive camry's anymore...
