Kaboom!

Hey guys,

I thought some of you would enjoy this little vid.

http://www.death2cones.com/videos/irwindale_3-29-07.wmv (right click, save as - please!)

This is what too much gas and dropping the clutch to fast does on my Camry.

I still haven't put the car up on jacks to see exactly what broke - most likely either the axle(s) broke or the clutch exploded.

Have fun with the video!

-Charlie

That sucks badly! Was that your first run of the day, or were you able to at least run it a time or 2 before it broke?

You might think it sounds that way... but it ended up being a clutch dump at around 5k rpm. I wanted to launch around 3.5k.

First run - the car made it about 10 feet!

I'll be taking it much easier next time at the drag strip. I was just too excited and made a mistake.

So, it looks like it was only an axle... phew.

I haven't pulled it apart yet (I wil after I get a new axle), but the axle broke right at the hub! I figured it would be a CV joint, I guess I was wrong.

I'll be back on the road this weekend.

Thanks. Yeah, I've had those gauges for years now... swapped over from my first Camry that I crashed.

The axle has now been replaced, and the car is back up and running. The axle broke right where it goes into the hub - twisted right off the rest of the axle. I'm planning on teaching the car how to be fast.

Glad to hear the car is back up & running, Charlie.

Kind of surprised it snapped the axle instead of taking out the CV joint. Did you have to eat the core deposit, or did they actually take it?

I was also surprised it wasn't the CV.

No core - $90 for a brand new V6 axle with a lifetime warrantee... We'll see if they accept a broken axle next time.
