Hello, I am going to try to sell my 90 camry dx 5spd with 143k miles on it. How much should I ask for it. I wish I had pictures. It is pretty decent shape. There is rust on the wheel wells but not as bad as I have seen were I am from. I was thinking $2000, and the lowest would be $1400. It is in good condition. My Aunt is the original owner of the car, then my other aunt bought it and then I bought it. Thanks Justin
Hey Justin, 4 cyl. I presume? $2k may be a bit high of a starting price, but $1400 may be within reason. Being that it's been in the family it's entire life, do you have all the service history of the car?
There is no record of all the service my aunt has done to it, but I have all the stuff that I have done to it, new tires, flush radiator, and changed oil every 3000 miles. I have babyed the car. The rust is on the wheel well isn't bad. I took it to a body shop here locally and they sell a lot of Toyota and said I my Camry was in the best shape for it's age. I got a rust estimate to fix it and they said $2,200 and it isn't probaly worth it unless I keep the car for a while. I am looking at getting a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT but I know the dealer proably won't give me crap for it so I am trying to get rid of it on my own. I am only 17 too and it has been a excellant first car. I would hate to see it go. I really would hate to get away from Toyota, my dad is an American car guy so he doesn't want me to get a "import" and neighbor always give me crap about the Toyota being rice. Telling me to turn off my car because he can smell rice. He is too a Chevy guy and he is old. Gotta love the elderly. Thanks Justin
Rust is a real deal-killer for me. No matter how nice or well-kept the rest of the car is, a little body rust is all it takes to turn me off. In Iowa there probably aren't too many cars that old without rust. Fortunately though, there are many people looking for a good transportation special. I don't know about that rust repair price though... in one breath they tell you it's not bad, but they shoot you a price that's essentially twice the value of the car.
How many miles are on the Grand Am GT you're looking at?
I just ran into an 1990 Camry LE being sold today and its a 5 speed with 128K miles 4 cyld for $2000. Its in clean, runs and its in great condition. I asked the owner today about how long he has had it for sale and he says about 6 months now. He had about over 50 people interested, but none wanted to pay the $2000 for it or could come up with it at once. I offered him $1300 and he said he'll give me a call if he doesn't sell it in the next 2 months for higher than that. So I might just have another camry if it all goes well.

2000 aint really that bad since its a dx and a 5 speed with very low km on it, if it in canada id buy it for 2=)
I second that motion...it's getting very difficult to find 2nd gen Camrys without rust everywhere...though there are a lot of 5-speeds kicking around, it seems.
