Bad idle??

Hey guys,
I got a 1990 3SFE DOHC EFi Camry last week as a run around
It has 328,000km on it but seems to be going fairly strong

It does have a bit of a bad idle though. It goes smooth, then vibrates a bit, then smooth. The revs are consistent but the idle feeling isn't.

Also, oddly, when I give it some, it lags, and then once it gets around 4000rpm or so there is a VTEC type rush/feeling in it.

Any common causes? or ideas what this could be?

try cleaning out the throttle body and check the air filter first

I was planning on doing that, and checking the injectors in it

I was worried it was a head gasket or cracked head but it doesn't blow smoke, has decent power and the oil inside the filler cap seems clean
