Replacement windshield wiper bailed on me today....

... when I needed it most! It's somewhere in northern KY on the left shoulder of I-75. I stopped a few miles down the road at the Toyota dealer in Dry Ridge, but they didn't have the right kind for my car.... the ones that are secured by a screw.

Where do you guys get your replacement wipers when they're the ones secured with a screw? I've never had a car with this setup, and only my '91 is like this. The wagon appears to use the "normal" type of replacement, without a screw.

The replacement ones I got a few weeks ago from Advance Auto seemed to press onto the arm, but didn't really secure or snap into place. I had my doubts, but though they would hold on for a little while until I could get around to getting the right ones. I was wrong.

hmm...odd, both my camrys had the screw on wipers and I never had a problem finding replacements, usually just got whatever autozone had. Infact, my maxima and GTI both have screw on blades too, and the last blades i bought even came with replacement screws.

Yeah that is odd even the ones I bought at Wal-Mart came with the screws. I've never had problems finding them.

The ones on the wagon could have been full arm replacements, but I'm not sure. I'll have a look at AutoZone or Wally-World. Glad to hear they are commonly available though. Heck, I've probably bought replacements before that had the screws, but didn't pay any attention to them because I didn't need them at the time.
I got my replacements at Advance Auto. I really hate that place, but it's the closest parts store to my house. They didn't have Anco in the sizes I needed, so I got Bosch. Seemed like nice wipers, but didn't have the screw mounting option.

Yeah, those look pretty cool. I can't complain, though...I've always used the Amco steel wiper assemblies, and all I replace is the rubber blades themselves. Saves me a bundle, believe me ($6 for a pair of new blades instead of $12 EACH for new wiper assemblies).

I've tried a lot of different kinds but found that the genuine Toyota blades (with screw) work best on my '90 sedan.

The rack behind the parts counter of the dealership I stopped at almost looked to be some aftermarket brand.... didn't see any Toyota logo or name on the package (although it was a good 20' away). I've never had any performance issues with Anco or Trico replacements.
And the Bosch wiper worked great until it let loose @ 75 mph.

Just bought a Bosch replacement from Advance today. It had a small plastic "box" inside with the replacement "tip" (steel not plastic) 2 screws and a replacement pin. Changed the tip and the wiper snapped on. The pin didn't fit so I left it out. (couldn't pull the wiper back off without pressing on the release tab) Pic on the back shows both with and without the pin..
I have a fairly heavy dew right now and wipe the windows with a towel so's as to get on the road faster. swmbo (trying to help or so she said) hit the wiper lever just as I was wiping the window. old plastic tip broke and sent the wiper flying. Then one of the screw heads was totally stripped out inside. Ended up burning the old one off so I could get a vice grip on the screw! Glad it was plastic! sledgehammer mechanics!! lol

I tried to avoid having to mess with this by letting Advance install it....Gal took a new employee outside to show him "how it was done" heehee she gave up and walked off after stripping the thing out more by using PB Blaster and a "bigger screwdriver" (it was rusted pretty bad) Should a seen the guys eyes when I applyed a Bic to it after breaking as much as I could off with pliers.
Told him "don't try this unless you know what your doing" lol

I checked AutoZone and they had the Bosch 19" wipers with the steel bracket, but the 17" size didn't include the bracket.

I ended up going to a different 'yota dealer and getting them. Glad that hassle is over with.
