1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey, why did you build a track car out of a Camry? You'll never make money with it, it's just a labor of love! Why not give our buddies another performance option? It will not be until I have my own shop, though, as my mom would kill me if I plugged up the garage like that!
building the mold isn't hard it's the material you use. as for fiberglass molds(which most of them are made out of) there's a 10-15% shrinkage that happens when it cures, hence why most fiberglass parts never fit right. epoxy brings it down to 1-5% but it's 2-5 times the cost. And that's just material, not counting labor cost, epoxy's harder to work with you have to get the mixture exact. If that mold's still around it's probbly warpped by now.

Quantum mechanics - the dreams that stuff is made of.
I always figured that if I made hoods, they'd be flat... I'm not terribly fond of the lump going up the middle. Dunno why.
I've got a guy here in town who's good at working this sort of thing and he's a shop teacher- if I were to supply materials I'd be willing to bet that he'd be willing to do the stuff as a shop project... And he always does the finnicky stuff himself.

That's why I'm doing vents, not a scoop... But yeah, a flat (stock) hood is MUCH easier, as you just have to make the molds (skin and inner frame), instead of modifying a mold, etc.

I'll have to let you guys know if I ever start making these... Figure it'll be in my off time, so I'll only charge enough to cover materials and shipping, but this won't be for quite a long time yet.
