"Now let's see who's got the balls to go through with this and get a carbon fiber hood on their 87-91 Camry's.....
Here's the deal. Last time I checked, I had about 12 guys who were interested in getting the hood made for their Camry. I don't how serious you guys really are but I guess we'll find out now. Theoretically, we have 12 potential buyers. For 12 people, the carbon fiber hoods will come out to $450 per hood, per person. Not bad considering that these hoods don't exist. $450 for pretty much a one off custom carbon fiber hood is not bad at all. To get these hoods into production, we'll need a $100 deposit from each buyer. That means that anyone who really, and I mean really, wants the hood would have to put down a $100 deposit. Again, not a bad deal at all. Those of you who are willing to put the money down will get a carbon fiber hood for the 2nd generation (87-91) Toyota Camry's. Reply to this message and e-mail me if you're interested...... "

Joey
im intrested in the carbon fiber hood production you spoke about so whats up have you had any made yet or did you get a bunch of bluffers? let me know cause im trying to build a sleeper and that hood would help me out alot thanks javier
Good luck guys.... Ive been thru this with a few different parts. Itll take at least 20 or more probably to get it done. Ive been waiting for a loooooooong time for some CF parts for my 93. It took months just to convince the supplier to make the parts and about a year or so since the search started and its still not in production yet. Keep at it and eventually you will get what you want. Theres always a market for these parts Its just a matter of expressing the desire for the parts to get any company to make them. GL again
The hoods got made (a few of them) and there will be no more (the mold was destroyed).

Couldn't they in theory just make new molds?

Of course. But that would cost a few thousand $$$... I have friend with a shop that does carbon fiber (among other things). Its not a cheap process. Just the materials for a hood like that is a few hundred $ these days.

I heard a rumor that the shop burned down, but at the very least they went out of business. They only finished like 6 of the 10 original orders. I actually own the first/original hood produced that Joey originally had. I bought it from him when he moved on to Hondas around 2004.

Tempted to go form a mold... I know a guy who made some for Suzuki Samurais... Wasn't too hard.
You are right - it isn't too hard. Mostly time consuming. It would be cool, as long as you understood you won't actually make any money off of it!
I was actually at my buddies shop yesterday pulling carbon fiber WRX door cards (interior panels) out of the molds... I'm planning on grafting vents into the hood somehow, though I haven't figured out the exact plan yet.
