1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My 91 Camry was stolen and I was thinking about putting in a cut off switch any idea which wire to use. The fuel pump I guess would be the best but harder to get to so how about a distributer wire. Also anyone know where to get the rubber or trim on the outside of a door window that keeps the water out?
Run the NE+ signal through a switch, or through a relay that activates vai a switch.
No NE+, no fuel, no ignition. At most 5-15 seconds of either, then the ECU stops the engine b/c it doesn't know wtf is going on even in limp mode.

Im just trying to get an understanding, are you going to install a switch somewhere in the car (hidden?), that you turn off or on when you get out of the car, which kills either the fuel pump, or somehow disables the engine, so no one can start the car until you turn it back on?
Thats a interesting idea, might even confuse a thief more. I was just thinking of putting a switch threw the 12 volt Plus going to the distributer or igniter.

It's very easy and cheap to hook up a hidden switch (hooked to the EFI relay maybe?), but the only problem is, your car will already be broken into and the ignition switch popped before the would-be thief realizes he can't start your car. Damage is already done, although you'll still have your car.
What would really be cool would be to have the hidden switch serve a dual purpose: disable the EFI, and enable a high-powered taser mounted under the seat, so that when you turn the ignition switch you'll light up his world.

Now THAT's a good idea... though the thief would probably sue you and win!

Since this 90 Camry I have is just a little more secure than my 90 F150 ... but no where close to my VW or DelSlo ... I was thinking after seeing a friends new Camry, is there a remote control solution that will work like on the 07 Camry, you just have to have the transmitter in the car with you, pocket, purse, etc ... and then it will allow it to start? This Camry is going to school with my kid, and since they are so high on the stolen car list still, a little prevention might be in order.
