Australia Spluttering Camry EFI

Hi Guys,

I have had my old camry now for two years. IT has had an occassional splutter, but now it is happening all the time.

Basically driving along it will judder and splutter, and run roughly.
At idle the revs can vary between 1000 - 1500.

Its an EFI engine, I am thinking problems with the Injector Pump.

Any one have any other ideas.

Cheers

Nick

Symptoms of One or More Dead Fuel Injectors

Yes clean the TBI it may help. I dont think you have vacuum leaks unless it idles roughly. If the idle is good, you have no vacuum leaks.

I have a hunch that one or more of your fuel injectors is clogged or dead. Its not too hard to find out - carefully disconnect the electrical connector for the injectors, one at a time. Run the engine after each injector is deactivated. If you disconnect an injector and notice no decrease in performance, then you have found the dead one.

Injectors can be cleaned using ultrasonic cleaning, some shops can do this. You could also try seafoaming them if you want to try the easy stuff first. If there is a pick-a-part junkyard near you, a low buck way to fix it is to take a chance on a used injector from another Camry. New injectors are not all that expensive but those are the cheaper ways; btw if you find one dead injector theres no pressing reason to replace the other 3 IMO

Australia Progress !!

Hi Guys,

thanks for the replies.

I have not ever gone into EFI technology so your pointers were of great help.

I have 'cleaned' all the connectors to the injectors now, and this seems so far to have cleared up the problem.

One connector was very oily, and the econoseal was obviously not doing its job.

Hopefully in the morning it will still be running good.

Thanks again
