so well i'm planing to do a 5spd swap... i got most of the parts cep for the tranny... i was wondering if one from a 93 camry I4 will work? i found one for a decent price only 62k miles on it.
don't get started on all the S54 S53 i dunno which is which anymore after searching through all the toyota and celica and mr2 forums they all say different things

i always heard my 88 has an s53, its trashed and i need another one, but anyways they are in gen2 camrys and fwd celicas with a 3s series block, I think they would live on a stock v6 if you didnt bash it, not sure it will bolt to a 5s block though
Nope, it won't bolt up--from what I've seen at work. I4 and V6 trannys are different.
And atobe, do you still need any parts? I've just finished exams and the weather is finally spring-like, so let me know if you're missing anything. I've kept that 5-speed Camry in the yard all winter, just in case you'd need anything. Again, sorry for the long delay.

Honda my A$$, you just can't kill a Yota...
I DON"T HAVE A V6 !!!! this is I4 tranny from a 92 camry to I4 in 88 camry... should work right ?
i still need the brake pedal and master cylinder and probbly some small parts somewhere
Heh heh, I wasn't implying you have a V6, just responding to random thread conversations.
I can get you the brake pedal and the master cylinder, I won't charge you for them except for shipping (used parts=not worth much cash).
I'll have more parts soon, as a 5-speed V6 Camry just came in at work. I almost pissed myself, I've been waiting 3 years for a proper parts car!

TBay, what else you got available for an I4 5-speed swap? I'm thinking I'm going to start my collection here pretty quick. If rustySFE blows up his project race car I'll have some parts available, but it's a 'yota, and they just don't blow up that easily.
atobe, you probably shouldn't put an I4 tranny behind that V6.

Any manual transmission from ANY Camry from '87-'02 will bolt-up to your 3s block. In some cases, not all bolts will line up, and you will have to do a frankenstein flywheel/clutch in some cases. Manual transmissions from Celicas from '87-'99 will also work. (S, VZ and MZ series motors are compatible with S and E series transmissions)
Oh, and if you want the (very old) transmission from before my motor swap, you can just come pick it up. It lightly grinds in 3rd gear sometimes, but is in pretty decent shape otherwise.
