CV Joint strange-ness: Mark II

So....

Got my 90' Camry's CV joint out with a little effort from a good slide-hammer and a helpful roomate. However, I'm now trying to re-install it and I'm running into a bit of a problem. As I can't find a 'pop-in' style CV reference in any of my repair manuals, I'm a little wary of putting this new one in. I know it'll take a little effort because of the snap ring, but how should I go about re-installing this thing? I really don't want to ruin the race on the new CV or the ones inside the transaxle, so I'm taking a watch-and-wait stance this time. Thanks for the help, guys. Everyone was spot on when I needed help pulling the old one.

The splines on the new cv shaft should slide into the diff without too much effort, but the snap ring can be tricky. Don't slam the shaft in, but try moving it slightly back-and-forth or up-and-down as you push it in. After it's seated properly (be sure it's all the way in so the snap ring retains the shaft within the differential housing), then proceed to re-insert the outer part of the cv shaft into the hub.

I've done this more times than I can count over the years (stupid remans, and stupidly high dealer prices here in the boons). I've never had a problem or damaged anything--just be patient. Good luck! You're almost done...

do not beat the hell out of it with a hammer, just use the slop in the inner joint to pop it in and dont pull on it too hard or you will pull the inner plunge joint apart

For what it's worth, Toyota states to put the slot in the cir-clip in the down position. A little grease will hold it in place. Don't be surprised if you need to make more then one attempt. As TBady states, position the shaft into the housing before installing, you don't get to carried away and damage the housing seal.
