2nd Generation 90 Camry flywheel bolt pattern

Hello,

I am looking to replace the 3S-FE engine in my '90 Camry w/5 speed.
Date of manufacture per the sticker on the door jam is 10/89, but the VIN shows it as a 90.

Anyway, I've read that Toyota switched from a 6-bolt to an 8-bolt flywheel pattern at some point during the model year. I think that mine would have the 6-bolt pattern but I am not sure how to verify. Could someone point me in the right direction? I haven't been able to get under the car yet but I plan to this weekend.

Also, assuming I locate the correct 3S-FE engine, does it matter whether the donor came from an automatic or a 5-speed transmission?

Thanks,

RWood

cars made in 89 are '90 year model cars. A 91 Ford is built in 90, A 91 Toyota is built in 90. Car manfuacturers release the next year's model in the year prior to what the VIN states. Some sort of marketing ploy no doubt.

As far as the bolt pattern, I've seen many threads about this specific topic, and the Search feature will certainly give you information helpful to you.

And no, it doesnt matter if the engine was connected to an auto in the donor car, your car is already set up to work with the manual tranny, and any 3sfe engine will swap, minus the RAV-4, which would require an OBD-II ECU

Since your car was built in 10/89 - that makes it an 8-bolt flywheel. Cars built before 6/89 have a 6-bolt.

thats not true....

they start production in 90 for a 91, but production for the 91 goes untill the new model year comes out usually not untill the next model year is released sometime mid-late year.
