i have a 91 camry with 16v auto, its my first none vw,and i have no idea where to even start looking for stuff for this car. i would like to give it some more pep as its very slow at the moment
any help on where to find stuff or what engine swap would be good please let me know
Probably your best bet, overall, for minimum problems and cost, and maximum reliability and durability, is just to put in a new/rebuilt/ or even used-from-japan engine. The 4 cylinder has plenty of power for a 4 banger. The most i would do to it after that is maybe install headers for better breathing (which ought to buy you maybe another 20 or 30 hp) and then leave it. But then i may be a bit of an over cautious old coot sometimes.
You can go the V6 swap like WV Camry said, but you will have to change an awful lot of parts. I couldn't even begin to tell you where to start on such a project. Also it will not be cheap. If i were going the V6 Camry route (i like the V6 have a 2002 with it) i think if you priced all the parts you'd probably feel you are better off with another camry that has a V6 already, and just rebuild that if it is beat.
When I first bought my camry I had the oil changed, new oil filter, new fuel filter, new spark plug leads, new dizzy cap, new rotor, cleaned the throttle body and a new air filter.
And I could immediately tell the difference in acceleration from when I first bought it, so a general tune up is the way to go. I also gutted my cat converter which gave me a little more power, and I've just bought a timing gun and my timing has been on 5 BTDC while its supposed to be on 10 BTDC which I changed only a day or so ago and I can notice some difference with that. This is all really gaining lost power due to poor mantanace, and thats about the only way to gain without spending tonnes of cash.

For suspension. You have Intrax or B+G to choose from for springs. KYB for Struts. Whiteline for swaybars.
I'll be calling ground control tomorrow to see howmuch for some custom coilovers. I'm tired of the body roll I get with my B+G/KYB combo plus I want the car lower.
For engine. Second Gen 3SGE swap. 2nd or 3rd Gen 3SGTE swap. I did a 3SGTE swap and it cost me $6000 turn key however this icluded an upgraded clutch, fuel pump, and various knick knacks that you'll need for something of this nature.

Here's my camry ^
Current: B+G Springs, KYB GR2 Struts, Erebuni Bodykit(uninstalled), 3SGTE/E52 swap, Crane HI-6S Ignition Box, Crane Timing Retard Controller.
Plans: Here
another thing that you could do to add some more pep to your camry is to go with a lower sized tire. a 205/40/16 which I am running for autox will give you better gearing for acceleration.
ground control told me they don't do custom setups but I'll email their tech guys and see what's up cause the dude who answered the phone seemed to either be high or full of shit.

wow , thanks you guys , yeah vws are def for fixing i used to work at a shop called eip tuning and have had several vr6 jettas , but this camry was given to me and i know it wont be very fast due to the fact its auto ,but i need to do a few things .im working on buying a 4runner to turbo charge this summer.
are there any other companies that make coilovers for these car or is it just struts and springs.
like i said, these arent VW's in any way shape or form. Ive had both, and basically, you drive a camry as is, unless you want to spend an ass-load of money on custom work, cause no one makes anything for them. VW you can put all sorts of shit on them, gen2 camry - zilch.
