2nd Generation Engine Seal Repair

Hello everyone, first time posting here.

I have a 1991 Camry LE with the V6. We have had the card for about 3-4 years, and the car has always had a bit of an oil leak. Recently, however, the oil leak has steadily been increasing recently. About 2 years ago, Toyota quoted us about 2k or so to fix this. I have a bit of mechanical prowess, so I'd like to see if I might be able to replace these seals myself. I would like to avoid removing the engine/trans if at all possible due to lack of workspace. Is it possible to replace all of those seals without removing the engine?

Not really. youll at least have to take the transmission out, but seeing as you have a v6, save yourself the hassle and pull the whole thing. do all you belts and hoses while your in there.

what type of milage do you have on it?

Well, the engine has about 108,xxx miles on it. I'd like to get another 3 years out of the car, but $2000+ to have Toyota do it seems like a waste, even though the car is for the most part still good.

Does the trans need to be pulled from the bottom of the car or can it get pulled through the engine bay along with the engine?

don't take it to a dealership take it to a local mechanic you trust or you can do it yourself if you have all the tools... you can probbly crank it out over a weekend... the whole thing will go through the top if you have a cherry picker

Definitely get the engine out of the car to do the seals. Borrow or rent a) an engine hoist (cherry picker) and b) an engine stand. With the engine out, everything is a LOT easier-- those seals are all nestled way too close to the inner fender/strut tower when the engine is in the car.

You can buy a complete seal/gasket set on eBay for around $80USD.
