1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
The lights for the A/C controls (other than the A/C-on indicator) are intermittant on my Camry. The rest of the lights are fine (gauge cluster, etc.). I can narrow it down to one wire from the diagrams, but I don't know where to start in the search for the culprit (which part of the wire).
My last Camry had the same problem, just not as bad. I don't like whacking the dash to get the lights to come back on...

Do you mean just the AC/ECON light does not come on?
I had the same problem where whacking it solved it for a while, but I took it all apart one day and the AC/ECON buttons come out and its a little box, there is a globe on the top of the box which you will have to repace.

Other way around - the A/C light does work, the rest down there don't. I also have the lever-type A/C controls, not the push-switch type.

haha, you already fixed it the way i fixed it. *WHACK!* = work
arent you some sort of electrical guru or something? last person i ever suspected to be asking a question, instead of answering one.
I do know electrical stuff pretty well, but that doesn't mean I can't ask for help. I was hoping to find somebody who has fixed this previously and could point me in the right direction. The problem is somewhere along a 3-4 foot harness that is buried deep in the dash...

On my 87 wagon there is a small plug-in connector on the back of the climate control panel, but the outer trim must be removed to access it (I was replacing the whole control assembly due to broken levers so I took apart all lower dashboard trim.)
