Bolt Sizes

Hey and good day! I am new to the forum as I just purchased my daughter a 1990 Camry LE for graduation.. 2VS 2.5 V6 Auto

I thought I had a broken center motor mount because in reverse the motor would shimmy and lift from the right side of the motor(firewall side) when brakes were applied and acceleration lightly applied..

I inspected it last night and found that the bolts to the engine block are missing. I rummaged through my metric bolt selection and was unable to find the proper size and pitch of bolt for this application.

I searched the repair manaul for specs. but unlike the mitsubishi manuals Toyota does not give bolt sizes and pitch, only torque specs.

Can any one tell me what size of bolts they are? I called the dealer parts counter and they could not even tell me.. They have no way to track sizes and pitch of any of the bolts on the car apparently.

Does anyone know of a good source for this info?

At this point I would love to know what size the bolts are so I can order them right the first time.

Who would ever think getting a few bolts could be such a pain..

Thank you for your help.. At least the motor mount aint broke.. Thats a plus..

String

P.S.. Also,, I have read that some are making their own motor mounts. Using the old ones for molds and using some sort of Poly Plastic for this purpose. I have read other means of making their own motor mounts. Is there a reason why OEM replacement mounts are not good enough? Thanks again for your time and help..

The dealer might be able to pull up the bolt part numbers on their computer, call first.

Toyota uses 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 mm bolt diameters with 1.0, 1.25, 1.25, 1.25, 1.5, 1.5 pitch accordingly. Use a stick or rod in the hole to find the bolt lengths you need. Then insert whatever bolts you have (including English) and see which fits the best. Then compare English diameter to metric and see what you have.

Metric bolts are now common at stores. If you are in the LA area there must an industrial fastener store that sells metric bolts. Check the Yellow pages and call around. Purchase a good Class of bolt, (bolt strength). The vendor can help you with this if you know the torque setting. Or take the info to the dealer.

A well equipped hardware store might have the bolts, not sure about the box stores that only stocks what sells in volume.

if you can find a junk yard near you... it'd be the cheapest... you can get all the nuts/bolts you need and they won't even charge u for it.. other than the entrance fee

Hey and Good day! Hope you are all doing well. Thank you for your help, time and advice. I found the bolts at a local shop of whom I have known the owner/mechanic for quite a few years but have never had him do any work. He knew exactly what thread pitch it required, or as I will find out for sure when I attempt to put them in.. He is sharp so I bet they are right.
I still have not found a factory source of bolt sizes and pitch used in the entire assembly. Maybe Mitshubishi is one of the few that give that info in their repair manuals? The dealer parts department told me they had no way to find out that information. If the bolts come with the part then they will be listed, but otherwise I guess if you order a bolt, you don't know the size until you get it?? it just has a part number? and if the parts person doesnt' know his stuff he doesn't know the size and pitch of the bolt off the top of his head. I really didn't ask the parts guy if I could order them. I just asked if he could tell me what size etc. the bolts were for a specific application, in this case the center motor mount. He said he could not. He may have said they can't get them, but I don't recall that. I shall call them and see if I can order the bolts for it.. why not

anyway, now to actually have the right bolts and install them and find that there is no reason specific for the bolts not being installed such as broken off bolt or threads stripped or some terrible vibration after installing it that near tears the engine out of the thing..

Hope all is great..

Thank you

The dealer mechanics would need a way to determine what bolt goes where. There would need to be some why to pick them out of stock or order them.

When you install the bolts torque them to spec, perhaps even use bolt adhesive.
