Australia Gen2, Central Locking!

Well it took me a while, but I finally got my central locking kit to work in the Gen2

Has anyone else done this?

I ended up buying two kits, the first kit was a pretty crappy $20 one off eBay, took me 4 hours and I just gave up because the little motors were not strong enough to push the locks open/closed. The second was a better brand which cost me $35, took me little over 2 hours and now I have remote central locking and all it cost me was $55.

If anyone is thinking of installing central locking into there Gen2 camry I can get some pics to show how I did it to help out a bit. Now all I've goto do is install an alarm system.

Was really wondering what parts you used.

I found this kit .. http://www.commandoalarms.com/itm100034.htm has an install PDF on the page also .. looks like it is what I want to unlock the car remotely and also disable the starter (a good thing for a car like ours which is still high on the stolen car lists) .... and with a few more parts maybe even install a trunk release. I don't really need an alarm, since they often go unnoticed. Anyone install anything like this on their car that already has factory power locks? Heck ... at the price and if the install goes easily enough .... I might have to put one on the F150 and the Del Sol also since they both have power locks already.

I just bought the remote centrual locking kit off eBay, there all pretty much the same, all thats required is the wireing diagram and you do the rest yourself.

I just took the front door cover off and fixed the locking on that door, so I've got a few pictures but really there only of how to take off the door and one or two of where the actual centrual locking motor is inside the door.

I'm going to do a writeup on howto remove the door covers, this is what took me a while I got stuck on the door handle and the window winder.. So figure if anyone else is going to do the same they will probadly get stuck at the same spot.

Great ... I have to pull a door panel to get the key code.

Now if you get the manuals at camrymanuals.com ... there is one that tells you how to get the winder of ... they say to use a rag to pull the retainer spring out on the door handle so it will come off ..... I wish I'd known that 25 years ago when I used to pull them off on my chevy's that had the same setup. That red shop rag is a cheaper and easier to find tool than the ones they sell to do the job and probably doesn't do the damage the tools I've seen do to the car or the wallet.

Keyless entry or alarms work just fine with factory power locks. All thats required is hooking up 2 wires (lock & unlock).

If you don't have factory power locks, you have to install relays and door lock motors.

You need a trunk release silenoid (motor) and a relay.

Make sure the keyless entry system or alarm your using has auxilary output(s). You'll be using a auxilary output to trigger the relay for the trunk release.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but i recently purchased a remote central locking kit. I know how to mount it and have basic electronic knowledge but i'm having problems with it. It didn't come with instructions, just a dodgy wiring diagram printed on the side which isn't even accurate since it only has one master and 3 slaves (there are 2 masters in the diagram, but it doesn't really matter)

I tried dummy testing it with an old computer power supply. When i first turned the power on, all the actuators unlocked(pushed all the way out). I tried pressing down on the master but it felt like the motor 'locked', so i turned off the power and the actuator was free to move again. I thought it must be like that since it's a remote kit, so i pulled out the remote and hit the lock button. Nothing happened. Tired the other button and again, nothing happened. Tried playing around with the power (giving it, cutting it and then powering again) and now the master is locked in the lock position and won't budge, despite there being no power.

I'm stumped; it's not working like a central locking kit and the remote isn't controlling it.

What should i do? Would trying it in the car be any different?

This is the kit:

http://fddz.com/en/Read.asp?id=65

It has a common wiring setup that you'd find with most universal kits as well as a white and a brown wire coming off the 'computer'/main harness. Am i supposed to connect those to something? Is the relay stuffed or something?

2nd Generation YOU NEED A RELAY and Diagram

Hey Scribby,
You have roll up windows so
The actuaor will move up and down by itself but
WILL NOT BE STRONG ENOUGH to move the lock once hooked up
UNLESS you get a relay for it.
Yes I know they don't tell you this at the purchase but it is true.

I did the same thing for my base models and once I put in the relay it was great.
This was after I fried the control hot hot box trying it too many times without the relay.

I have the connection pics you need to make for the fuse panel & light circuit if needed.

Hey Jimnist, Pluging things into 12 volt without knowng what goes where is a good way to fry those little boards. but your stuck without the instructions.

sounds like when you first gave it power you connected the command to unlock (+) ??? good luck.

So was that relay info aimed toward me too?

Well, the wiring diagram showed which wire was for the 12v constant and the ground. I hooked those two up so it should've been sweet. But yeah, the motors in the actuatora and the harness started getting a bit warm near the plug. I think the master actuator is stuffed now. It moves freely and when i retract it and apply power, it stays the same (should extend like the others). Also, remote still isn't working.

I'm guess i'm going to return this POS and get a descent one from a electronics store that actually has some rep.

Okay, I bought another kit today and tried mounting it. I reckon i can do the front doors, but the rears seem to be trickier. Can anyone suggest places to mount it? Both front and rear? Were there any factory mounting locations and holes?

I didn't mount them today because it's raining on and off here and i realised my cordless drill was out power :lol
