Wheel bearings?? Brake Rotors?? Please help!!

Everyone,

I've got a big issue with my 91 Camry V-6 and I DESPERATELY need your help, please!!! I just got the wheel bearings on the front replaced and afterwards my steering wheel was moving from side to side fairly bad and my brakes squeaked once for every revolution of the tire. This is all on the passenger side of the tire. I noticed that that same wheel bearing was bad b/c the wheel would move when I had it lifted on a jack.

Well, they fixed it and they said it was some nut near the caliper or something like that and my lug nut wouldn't move in all the way. After they fixed it and I drove it off the lot and the vibrating and moving of the steering wheel is still there and is actually worse! The brake power also seems to be worse as well. I returned to the shop and they said it was bad tires so I had them replace the tire on the passenger side with my full-size spare which is in great condition. Well, the vibrating and steering-wheel movement is still there. It's like after taking it in, everything has gotten worse.

Does anyone have any advice as to what could be causing the vibration and the side-to-side movement on my passenger-side wheel? I had the thought that it could be bad rotors. Is that possible? Please help as soon as you can because I really need it!! Thanks in advance!!

It sounds like the main thing you need to do is get a new mechanic - there are different things it could be and your mechanic sounds incompetent.

Does the steering movement become worse or can you feel and pulsation in the brake pedal when braking?

Jack up the tire off the ground. Grab the tire at the 3 and 9 o’clock position and do a push pull technique to check for any play. Rotate the tire and check for tire run out.

Sounds like the shop screwed up the job.

Thanks everyone for the help!!

I pulled the tire and caliper and rotor off the front passenger-side tire and checked the hub itself. It looks like the hub is the problem because it is either bent or was installed improperly when they replaced the bearings. I put the car in drive and watched the hub and it was messed up. Could this be something they did when they replaced the wheel bearings, or could it have been something previous? Let me know as soon as you can because I've got my mechanic working on it right now and I want to be able to tell him it was his fault if it was.

Got an update on the car. My mechanic put in a new hub and that was what was wrong. He didn't call me about it until after it was done, so I'm assuming I won't have to pay anything and that it was their fault when they replaced the wheel bearings. Anyway, good news and I'm off to pick up the car!! Thanks everyone for your help!!

Great, good follow up in getting it fixed right. Repairs shops do get it wrong sometimes. Keep this in mind if something new acts up after a recent repair.

my mechanic replaced my wheel bearing last week, when the problem turned out to be the hub as well
