My aunt has a 89 Camry V6 with 190k km on the clock. Recently the car started stutter when she starts the car. The tach jumps between 3-600rpm before it can idle properly at the 2k rpm for a cold engine. Its fine when its warm though.

Make sure the plugs and wires have been changed within the last 30k. Fuel filter might be slightly clogged too but working once it has fuel flowing through it.

Pull the negative battery cable for a few seconds to reset the car's computer.

If that doesn't work, report back.

Might check for a sticking IAC valve.

Plugs and wires have been changed in the last 10k, fuel filter was just changed a few hundred km's ago.

Will try the negative cable

what's a IAC valve?

IAC is idle air control valve. Controls the air bypass around the throttle plate and thus engine idle speed. The unit is attached to the throttle body.

How do I get to it? I'm a complete noob. Took me 283745029375 hours to yank the air filter out on her car. Took me 2 mins to put it back together though.... weird
