Cat Converter Solves Emission Test

I morned earlier about my 87 Camry blowing the TX emission regiment. It had been just 2-3 point over the HC limit (176) on both low and high spd check.

After reading several posts here, I bit the bullet

After shopping around I finally found a replacement.
The picture shows the damaged cat that was the emission problem. The HC went from 170s down to 60s.

Just thought the failure had an interesting appearance. The OEM cat had a cast iron case. Yeah, and it bolted directly to the exhaust manifold. BTW -- It is easier to remove the cat and manifold then separate them. It had a heat shield bolted to the case, which had no direct attachment to the sheetmetal replacement. SO I just found a handy clothes hanger and wired it back in place. The cat was next to the oil filter so I thought the shield would be good.

I'm a newbie at this and no one has yet shown me how to "put" the picture in the post.

I took the picture and shrunk it down to show other newbies how cats fail. It has a very peculiar appearance. If you could see the picture, I think you'd agree. I just have more to learn about these puters.

webhosting sites like imageshack or photobucket. Upload pics from your hardrive to one of them.....they will then give you a URL to which you cam put image tags on and it will show the pic

High-flo cats are highly over-rated. If a cat is in good shape and doing it's job, they're pretty much interchangable.

Whats interesting is here in Illinois cars that are older than 96 dont have to go for emission tests anymore. Im guessing theyll eventually go that way everywhere as the number of pre 96 vehicled on the road goes down.
