a/c blowing out the wrong vents!!!

New to this! I have a 88 Camry i just got and when u turn on the A/C the Air doesn't
come out the normal vents. It comes out of the little rectangle vent above the vents in the
middle of the dash! I hope everyone knows what I'm talking about
For example you know how you can turn the spindle dials on/off for the air to blow out the vents. well no matter which way I turn them on/off the air will not come out off the vents. I take that back, it ONLY comes out of the drivers side vent and passenger side. IT WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE 2 VENTS IN THE MIDDLE. IT's like the shutoff dial borke when it was turned off and the piece behing the vents will not open up! any suggestions?

The "on/off" dial that is next to the middle vents actually switches the vent to blow from the middle vent to that rectangle vent above the middle of the dash.

I would assume that something is broken in there whether that dial moves or not.
