3SFE Camry Died on the side of the road...

Sooo...it got about 2 hours away from home and killed over on the side of the road.

At first it would start back up but die when you hit the gas...then it wouldn't start at all. I thought maybe the coolant temp sensor was causing it to not be able to supply the fuel correctly, so I bought a new one and put it on. It still wouldn't start...it would turn over indefinitely but not actually catch. I took a plug wire out and stuck a screwdriver in it to see if it would pop when started and it seemed to be getting no spark. I just put a brand new ignition coil on it...could that be it? Either way, it's in the tender cares of a little shop in Columbus Texas. I spent most of the day on the side of I-10 trying to get it running to no avail. At one point I had the distributor completely off, disconnected everything, reconnected everything, and put it back together to see if maybe it would finish the trip...nope. I didn't see anything wrong in there either...

well My first thought is maybe the fuel pump gave up. ussually a car will stall, without warning when the fuel pump dies.
Try disconnecting your fuel line. get some extra fuel tubing, attach it to the fuel line, get an empty bucket and have someone try to turn the car on and see if any fuel sprays out
thats what I did to find out that my fuel pump died

I can't try anything as I had to get a friend to bring me the Celica and continue the journey from there. The Camry is still in Columbus...I'm two hours away.

I doubt it was the fuel pump as you could smell fuel...and as I said, I tested it and it was definitely not sparking.

If timing belt is not broken, thenit can be ignition fault. On my car the cause was a bad rotor.Failure of distributor pick up coil or igniter will set codes 12,13 and 14.

I'm going to shoot myself in the face if a failed rotor caused this much trouble...

It's not the timing belt...when I took the distributor off and had someone crank it the rod that goes to the dizzy was turning.

It ended up being the brand new coil. The shop said as far as they can tell it failed internally...
