2nd Generation oil

Ok guys, my 88 is driving me nuts, I have been battling this oil leak from the oil pump for about a year now, putting the o rings on it and front seal, last weekend I went all out and put bearings, timing cover gasket and cam and crank seals with a new water pump and vc gasket and the oil pump to timing cover still leaks at the bottom near the oil pan around the last bolt, should I embed the ring in silicone and then put the pump on or smear a thin layer around the edge before putting it on because i cant get it to seal against the ring, maybe i need to use a genuine toyota ring?

Did you maybe gouge the wall of the block when you pulled the old seals out? They should seal themselves unless there's other issues...mine did.

Now, when mine was leaking down to the oil pan it turned out to be from the distributor. That's a hella easy fix...did you look at that?

for distributor, jus buy a ring from toyota. it should seal and alittle tight to slide in, well for mine it is. make sure the distributor itself is not leaking inside. take off the cap and inspect. i had an extra distributor and all the internals were flood with oil.

Move air hose out of the way by detaching at the throttle body.
Remove distributor cap (4 bolts)
Remove Rotor (slides off)
Remove distributor (three bolts)

There's an O-Ring on the shaft that the distributor slips onto. Peel off and replace. Put it back together.

Seems simple enough. How did you determine that the leak is from the distributor and not somewhere else... or was it just a guess?

How much did the o-ring cost? Do i have to purchase the OEM?

Thanks,
Gopal

When my distributor appeared to be leaking inside it turned out to be the ignition coil itself instead. I wouldn't suggest anything other than OEM ignition coil, though, if that's the case.
