Q on power window switch

The driver side power window does respond, but only if I hold the switch at full extension and for a second or so. I thought it was a contact problem so I pulled out the console and cleaned up everything. There was carbon build up which I removed. The switches for other windows now perform far better, but no change in the driver side one. Any suggestions on what I should look for?

Also, the driver side power door lock does not work, but, the unlock mechanism works.. Earlier double twisting the key used to lock the doors, but recently that too stopped. Interestingly, the unlock works here too. The passenger side one works and I am using that to lock.

I cleaned the contacts so, I do not think that is a problem.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Regards,
Gopal

PS: Ofcourse cleaning the console was a PITA and I am not looking forward to it anytime soon...

I would put a multimeter on the driver-side window motor to see if it was getting juice while you were holding the switch for the second or two. If it is I would suspect the motor or the regulator. If not then the problem is in the wiring and switches. Any way, also clean and lube the regulator. This is my first suspicion. There are half a dozen lube points as well as the gear race.

I would use a similar method to check the lock mechanism to determine if you have a mechanical or electrical problem.

Thanks!

I think, I have to open the door panel to reach the motor. Are some instructions available somewhere? I have the Haynes manual, but it is at home right now

There is a screw in the metal handle and I think, two in the plastic handle. The metal handle is recessed in a plastic cup. Gently pull the cup out so you can see behind it and you will see a rod attached to the handle. Press the plastic clip away from the rod and the rod lifts out. I have used long nosed vice-grips to hold the rod extended while I mess with the clip. The clip is necessary so don't break it. There may be some other screws behind little plastic caps on the bottom and front of the panel. Those are easy. Then there are several hidden plastic fasteners that you pry out. Try using a spatchula and gently start from the bottom. Once these are out (or broken) the panel lifts up and comes out of the window channel. If it doesn't come out easy you still have fasteners attached. Unfortunately, the part that hooks to the panel pulls off easily and I never did figure out a good way to glue them back on.
