hey everyone . my 87 camry is studdering when i take off. from about 500 to a bout 2500 rpms it studders bad and the it revs fine above that. i'm not sure what rpms becasuse it doesn't have the gauge. i just replaced the distributer cap , spark plug wires and some spark plugs. so those are new. any idea guys? thanks for the help
I'd pull the plugs and make sure they're gapped properly first of all. If they are, then make sure the new wires are pushed fully onto the plugs. Also make sure that none of the wires got crossed when you installed the new ones. Did you get seperate wires, or did you buy the cap that has the wires attached to it already?
I found that when I had to use aftermarket spark plug wires for my Cressida, the boot on the engine end of the plug wire was too high, giving me too much gap from the engine block to the boot (it suppose to be a snuggle fit). I'd check to see if the metal top of the spark plug wire is making contact or so with the spark plug top in the engine. Lucky I was able to adjust the boot by pushing up or down on it.
wicanferret... can we say hello??? im in the same situation...
are those parts genuine Toyota?
I don't know if this is quite the same...mine doesn't really stutter, it's just painfully slow. But just in case...have you changed your ignition coil recently?

All car engines that run on gasoline have a coil. Some are just hidden more than others.
Did your problems start immediately after changing those parts, or sometime after? If it started immediately after you put your new parts on, then it's most likely related to that. Be it a bad connection on a spark plug, or maybe a bad part or whatever. Since those parts are ultra simple to change, I'd use process of elimination by putting your old parts back on one at a time until the problem goes away. Before doing that, make sure, as previously mentioned, that your plugs are gapped and torqued properly, and that your wires are securely snapped onto the spark plugs.
So presumably then the problem has nothing to do with the parts you've replaced. Hopefully the injector cleaner & coil will help. The coil is a PITA to replace, although it was somewhat easier than the power steering hose.
