1990 Dome Light

Everything in the car works except for the dome light. I have checked the "Dome" fuse under the hood, and it is good. I even replaced it just in case with no luck. I wasn't able to figure out which inside fuse was related to the dome light because there's no cover on my car, so I checked them all and none of them looked busted. I replaced the bulb...duh.

What would be the next thing to check?

Check the door switch or short the door switch wire out and see if the light then works.

It doesn't work even when it's set to "on." Would that make a difference?

Hahah, well, I'm trying to make mine into a somewhat nice family car, so a flashlight won't really help too much.

the contacts on the switch of the light are no doubtably busted.....with a little patience and a soldering iron it can be fixed (common issue for these cars)....once you unscrew the light from the roof and look at the underside of it, you will see exactly what Im talking about........

the door buttons tend to get "dry" as well....with those, I pulled back the rubber and doused the contacts with WD-40

Okay, I'll pick up a new soldering tip on the way home and yoink the dome light when I get there. Maybe it'll be working by tomorrow...

While you are in there, get a volt meter reading directly from the wires to determine that you do or don't have voltage to the switch. I never could get my switch fixed but I did have voltage so I knew to buy a replacement switch (eBay) and it worked great.

my front passenger window doesnt work... do the switches pull out with a little screwdriver and prying, or is there a more complicated procedure with this?

I am pretty sure that you need to remove the door panel. Check the on line manual.

on line manual?

anyway I took a little flat blade screwdriver and pried around the perimeter of the switch panel and it popped out with a little coaxing. Then I seperated the panel and the switch assembly (all of the switches, even power locks, are on this) and I can't get that apart on one side... I'm looking for one on ebay at the moment, maybe it'll work better)

-Matt
p.s. all else fails, I could just jump the wires, right?
