2nd Generation EGR question

Has anyone tried removing the egr gear on these cars to unlock a bit of power. It seems thatall the jdm motor is after all. on datsuns if you remove the stuff and re tune it you can gain 50 hp or more. wondering if the same thing goes with the toyota.

YES THIS IS MY FIRST TOYOTA.

just take the vacuum hose off it and drive it for a few days, listen for spark knock and if so back the timing off a little, dont forget to plug the vacuum hose

2nd Generation

man that was easier than removing the whole lot. wish id thought of that with the datsun. works good too even changed the exhaust note. now i just gotta get it to the olds joint so i can tune it.

I have a tendancy to just play around when im tuning though, anyone have any solid suggestions for these cars.

How much of an increase in power / fuel consumption would you say there is by removing the egr?

it'd be better to make sure it's in top running condition first- does it have a quality air filter, plugs, stuff like that. (note: fram used to be a quality filter... go hastings or baldwin if possible, wix/napa and purolator are more available and still good filters)

edit; this is my first yoda as well. Wish mine were green... then I could call it that. It's already old.

Hey thanks for the air filter brand names. i like to keep everything in good nick, but i just cant find an air filter to fit. tried about 6 differentones here in aus ordered by diffirent shops and all are too narrow ARRRGH. still looking for tuning tips though, hell im so noob to toyota i dont know which way to turn dizzy for advance. One thing i have learned is that these cars love ethanol blend fuel. Running smoother sounds better and getting better milage. woot. cheers all.
