wierd exhaust question; 3sfe silent performance
I assume that the bucking issue is due to the infamous ignition short in the 3sfe under the hood, so with that out of the way next project for my DD is exhaust...
the pipe is rusted through where it bends to the passenger side under the rear seats, and there's nothing there besides a blown out muffler with visible fiberglass packing hanging down looking all ghetto.
Here we have a couple of small problems...
1. it's slow. maybe it'll have more balls than a four year old girl once the bucking issue is sorted out and with fresh plugs and wires I plan on giving it while I'm at it. But I wouldn't mind a little extra oomph... is 2.25" a good size? I'm looking to maximize low end torque and response, not top end power. I normally shift around 2000rpm, and being a dd it doesn't pass 3k often at all. A little mpg would be good too, even though it doesn't use alot of fuel, every bit helps the money situation.
2. I want it to be as quiet as possible, since I tend to leave the gf's place at night, that's not good waking up her siblings, and I'm not into hearing the buzzzzz of the 3sfe @ 2000rpm (~55mph) all thirty miles home. Noise is a higher priority than power.
so... any suggestions? Would stock size exhaust be best for squeezing what low end torque is available from the little four? My idea is stock size tubing from the parts store, cut-n-clamp to stock tubing after flexpipe, and have a long-azz glasspack in there, and then some bends from the bin at the local parts store, and a stock type muffler... just in the 2.25" size rather than stock 2". Let me know if this would be good, or if it would suck.
