Well this is a general question. I asked this in different area and didn't get a response. My AC worked, but now it doesn't. The only thing I did was power wash the engine. I checked all the connections, vaccum and electric, and everthing is good. My LED is burned out on the AC switch and always have been. But no cold air comes out, and the magnetic clutch onthe compressor doesn't engage.
I put 12V+ to the compressor clutch and it will click so I think that is still good and not a problem. I checked all the fuses they are good. Don't know where to start trouble shooting? Realys, AC switch?
Is there any toyota manual info around where I can look up some trouble shooting help?
it "should" be in the online manual. I say "should" b/c i didn't actually look for it as i've never needed to work on it. Because of the EPA, you can't really do a lot of work on A/C. Especially when it comes to recharging the refrigerant. Has something to do with pollutants.
At most, you may only get diagnostics/troubleshooting help, and a lot of "take your vehicle to the your local Toyota dealer for repair"
My problem has nothing to do with the refrigerent, it was just recharged a year ago. It is an electrical/mechanical problem. I'm sure a loose connection/ground, or a componet failure.

There is nothing wrong with using your own pump to pull the refrigerant and charging it yourself.

check for power to the dashboard a/c switch connections. If you get no power, Maybe run a jumper from the fuse box itself, use a fuse tap and some crimp on connectors, do whatever you have to to get power to the a/c clutch. you hear the a/c clutch click on, but does cold air then come out when this happens? You didnt say.
Since you are pretty sure it is electrical try a new switch, a junkyard switch, or even wire in a toggle switch under the dash if you have to. Its August now for gosh sakes.
I know it is getting colder so the need isn't there for the AC, but I'm trying to get the vehicle ready to sell, and I want to give it to the next person working. I did concider getting a junkyard one, first I'm going to do like you said and narrow the posibility that it isn't my switch.
