Australia 3sfe gen 2 camry gear box

Hey guys my 3sfe gen 2 gear box has sh*t itself... cruching away up/down gears (original 16 yo box) ... now i'm weighing up my options :

1: get my box looked at and repared as required ( very pricey, could be more than just syncros )
2: get a 2nd hand box in stalled ( cheapest option )
3: get a roconditioned 2nd hand box installed ( again pretty pricey )

considering option 2 do second hand ( not reco'd ) come with a garrenty ? or is there a chance if i get a second hand box it will still cruch and shit just as sh*t ????

any other opinions welcome, thanks all.

- Marty.

PS: know any good places in melbourne ??

You seemed to have answered your own question, this being the cost of alternatives to a used trans. Are you going to do the installation work yourself? If so, find out what trans from other models/engines/years will fit this car/engine. Look around for a later model totaled out by accident car being parted out at a junkyard or an individual. Might look on Craigslist or the local ad only free papers, a lot of parting out TO’d cars show up in this area but can’t say where you are.

If you are going to have a shop install the trans best have them find one, as they will then be responsible for warranty work if the trans has problems.

DIY repair on a manual trans is not hard, but parts costs do add up. Thus a used trans would most likely still be less expensive even if rebuilding this one yourself.
