1988 Speedometer cable for a 2.0 Turbo diesel?

First of all, knewwwwwbie here; I wanted to introduce myself and say hello to all the fellow members. I have had a lot of good experiences with forums and figured I could help my dad out by inquiring about a piece he needs on his old camry. He is overseas and thought i could find one in the states.

He has a 1988 Camry (a RARE 2.0 L turbo diesel). Rare here in the US is what I mean. I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get the speedometer cable for his Camry. It is worn out and now his cluster is not working.

I have made some preliminary searches on Ebay and only found actual clusters but no cables by itself. I do NOT mind buying the entire cluster but I Don't think they come with cables. My biggest hurdle I think is also finding out whether the Gasoline engine's speedo cables would be identical to his turbo diesel's/

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

HAHA Yeah thats going to be my biggest challenge, I know this car is very rare in the U.S. The car is actually in Madagascar, and it is the ONLY diesel camry in the entire country!!! And there are only 4 camries there,,,,,4!!! And 3 of them are owned by the American embassy, my dad owns the turbo diesel. I have gone to junk yards but none of them really have diesels and I do not know if the cable if compatible with the diesel engines. I have not thought about dealers, I will contact some next week.

FYI, that car has 450,000 KM and it still runs like a sewing machine. Only minor things are wrong with it such as the speedo. The only major work done on it was the turbine had to be reworked on. Had to be shipped to South Africa.

The cable in question - its probably the one that goes from the transmission to the fire wall, then at the fire wall it connects to another cable that runs to the speedo. Its pretty common for the peice that connects to the transmission to break.

I have a feeling the cables are compatible. Hit the junk yard and grab one, see what happens.

Yes there is two parts to the cable. I forgot to mention, thanks for pointing it out Tomy. I will tell my dad to take lots of pix, especially the engine. He takes good care of it. It's a 5spd manual 2.0 L. Ill tell him to take pix of the dash too, it's pretty cool because it has a green LED display that lights up when the turbo is activated, it tipically turns on when you press harder on the accelerator. This is a diesel so no RPM gauge (sad*).

I think the car was assembled in Japan, but the car was actually bought in Bruseels Belgium in 1993 with 20K Km on it. I am dying to find a rebuilt new engine for it to keep this thing alive for many years to come but i doubt that's going to be possible. The
