Hey folks. I got a Gen1 Camry '85 that is giving me Code 53. I tried looking in my Chilton's repair manual and a quick search here, but i can't find a list and the camry manuals.com is no longer allowing downloads for manuals due to...

Really?
Hmm, no wonder when I first turn the key (with pin shorting), there was 3 flashs. Soon after a slight pause, there was 5 flashs then after about 2 sec pause, it did the 3 flashs. I was wondering if it was 53 or 5 and 3.
I suppose I might as well change the O2 sensor since that would be one of the cheaper (I believe) things. not sure how to tackle the code 3 though.
Any ideas how to clear the codes? I know you can with an OBDI scanner.
Again thankyou!

One more question though, I can't seem to find where it is mouted. The Chilton booket is next to worthless in this part. I can find it on other engines, but the 2SE is one i can't seem to find the O2 sensor...

I feel ya on that one. when i tackled the O2 sensor problem, i thought i had to take the top end apart like doin the spark plugs [my engine's the 2VZ-FE].
Anyways, if the layout is the same [exhaust pipe on the passenger side] trace the exhaust pipe to the engine. it should be located between the catalyst and the exhaust manifold. On my car it was accessible from underneath. you may have to remove the front right wheel to get a good look at it.
