The only part you need is the actual lever. You know, the part that the shift knob screws on to. That is what determines the shifter height and distance of the throws. A longer lever below the pivot ball give shorter throws, a shorter top gives a lower shifter height. Find a Toyota lever you like and pop it in there.

like he said, its just the arm, for actual replacement you will need to dissconnect the 4 bolts on top around that cupped housing, and a ring clip on the outside of that spring mechanism...now note how the spring arms are being sprung around the arm, important to do when put 7th gen celica shifter in, or you wont get any spring in the arm...also you will need to dissconnect two little clips on the shifter arm to remove the cables...dont lose the clips or the washers...

you may want to remove your center console, its just a bunch of screws and you can put it on the passenger seat with the seatbelts still attached...

if you have a "you pull " style junkyard near you, there might be a better chance to find a shifter arm...also you should poke around hte 7th gen celica for sale forums/threads and start asking for a stock shift lever...someone had to of done a short shifter...at my junkyard they had 4 7th gen celicas, 2 completely stripped to the frame, and 2 were fresh meat *evil grin* haha but i doubt those are still there

my suggestion is not to use a SS for the 7th gen celica...

this is for 2 reasons...

first and most importantly there may not be room...part of a short shifter design is that the arm under the pivot point will be longer, thus reducing your throw, there was only enough room in the camry for the stock 7th gen shifter, if this aftermarket one lengthens that piece of the shifter, then it will not fit in the camry assembly...

second...it would be such a short throw that it would be MORE difficult to drive...take your time to track down the stock 7th gen shifter, that will make you happier than an aftermarket one...seriously, get on some 7th gen sites/forums/threads and ask for someone selling their stock one after upgrading...

(edit: oh and a suggestion that my friend and i have for you is to get a new shifter bushing to use with whatever shift arm you put in the assembly...the reason being that yours will already be worn for the stock camry shifter, and it will make it even more notchy then it will be...after being installed a few weeks my friends shifter has been progressively easier to shift, but it is still stiff due to the fact it is wearing the bushing in for a new pattern...so get a new bushing, replace your transmission fluid, and grease all moving parts on the assembly...and if you want, get a weighted shift knob...this will make the shifter feel much nicer than if you just straight swap the shifter arm...)

2nd Generation 7th gen shifter kits do work on the gen2 camry

I just bought a shorty shifter for a 7th gen Celica and it fits with some modifications into my 91 Camry 5spd. You have to get the kit that comes with spacers for the actual shifter mount or it won't fit at all. the kit comes with the spacers, screws and all. You will have to use the old bushings in addition though or it will still be too short. The modification is the shifter plate you have to cut a wider notch or the cables will rub and make it all but impossible to shift into 2nd, 5th and reverse.
I love my set up now I got tighter shifts with a positive lock in each gear. a lot of the shifter play is gone now. It has a sporty feel and look with the leather shift boot and knob I got on it now.

so put the spacers on the frame then keep you old bushings in the shifter plate. there should be metal on the bottom of your old bushings this is what the new spacers butt up against. cut a deeper notch using a cutter wheel or Drimel into the shift plate where the cables are now dragging against it. bolt it in with the new screws and your done.
