2nd Generation Where to get Springs?

Hey guys,
I own an '87 2g Camry that I am slowly rebuilding/upgrading. I have already done a shifter out of a 7g celica, paintwork (Panda), 1st gen MR2 wing (which looks much better than one might think), front lip and fogs, and a brake rebuild. I am going to be doing suspension in the next 2 weeks and need to get struts and springs. I have decided to go with KYB GR2 struts (unless anyone has any strong things to say against them) and B&G springs for a 1.5 to 2 inch drop. My question is, where would be the best place to find the springs? I found the struts resonably priced but i was wondering if someone knew a good place for the springs. Also, if there is any advice about the install that anyone has, please let me know.
Thanks a lot,
Jay

Thanks a lot.
I have another question. I found a Ram Air Intake on Ebay for like $42 shipped. I was wondering what my options were for intakes. Is that one on Ebay decent and worth it or can I do better? I understand that I won't get much more horsepower but I want to get better throttle response and I can't really build my own due to that sensor on the tubing past the air box.
Thanks,
Jay

any intake you get is already too big for the engine. you just need the adapter really.. but anyways

you can get this.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-91...mZ190049231900 and supply your own silicon fittings and filter. and then it'll look like this

where the filter is in the fender. or you can not use that pipe and have the filter behind the battery ?

The link at amazon says they have 2 sets in stock. Did they not have them in stock?

Yeah I got them from Amazon but they were getting them from autopartsway.com and they said they are out of stock. So I need to find someone else that has them and I would like to spend less than $250 shipped. Any ideas?

Wow thats a really clean engine, now is it really a ram air system, or just a cold air intake from the fender??? Also $50 seems kind of steep for overstock items...

That is the last brand-new set of pipes available. Ever. Unless you want to weld up another set yourself and have them powder coated. And you obviously haven't priced out intake systems for other cars. It is a perfectly fine deal for what you are getting (though the shipping is outragous... you might be able to do pick-up since you are local).

I'm sorry, but it sounds like you took my comment personally. I look at these mods in a cost vs. value of car vs. performance improvement. I would rather piece together my own intake for $15-25 (as seen earlier in an earlier post here ) than to drop $75-80 on ebay w/shipping and then have to purchase the connector fittings and a filter that fits in the fender.

I do know what they cost for other cars, but this system only replaces the stock tubing and relocates the air filter (not included) to a cooler area (but has no inlet for air/pressure unless you rework the plastic trim under the front). If I can do that myself for less than half of what it costs on ebay, then I'm a happy guy.

Besides, the AFM restricts much of the airflow, so unless you are running a forced induction, I see no economical gains from this mod except, noise and 2 or 3 horsepower tops. If the stock setup gets 25-30mpg, then how much higher can you go? If anything, the extra noise would make me punch it more often, thus lowering the mileage.

Sorry for changing the thread subject Kuler2.0, but maybe this helps...

I did take the comment a bit personally, but not quite for the reasons you mentioned. I'm just quite tired of gen2 Camry guys complaining about how expensive stuff is when it is half or less the cost of equivalent things for other cars.

I also work 2 streets over from EL Prototypes (the company selling the intake on eBay), and the owner helped me out a bit during my motor swap.

That said, performance mods for the 3s-fe engine don't add much... So on that level, you are 100% correct.

HEy, thats cool man...I was wondering if you were somehow related to that company

Now I know that im not speaking for all camry owners, but when it comes to gen2 owner demographics, its probably safe to say that most wont be willing to dish out $$$ for mods that would pull from the original purpose of the Camry, and in many cases their functionality as daily drivers.

If the Camry was my only car, I for sure would be eager to get my hands on any cool bolt ons (after reg maint of course). If the timing belt and p/s hose didn't cost so much to replace, I would have an exhaust on the car already, but since it's my daily...im keeping it mostly stock. Nothing I've put on my car can't be removed in a couple hours.

I think the engine is great in terms of reliability. There are cars that I have seen in the u-pick junkyards with 300-400K miles, and on average the camrys all have at least 200K. I wouldn't be suprised if they were all on their original engines.

Performance wise, I would probably invest in another car, or w/proper funding, the 3sgte swap. In history, there haven't been many super reliable engines that also put out a lot of hp/torque without extensive mods (the small block 350 as an exception).

Basically i'm trying to say the car is great as it sits, and if you can afford it, go ahead and mod it. If you can't, you can be pretty damn happy that you own one of the most reliable cars on the road (and the most stolen) .

2nd Generation some more questions

It's cool for changing the topic. I just picked up the Camry a couple months ago and have never owned a toyota before so I am learning a lot. It also is now my daily driver so I want to mod it but cheaply and easily (cause it can't be on stands all week when I need to be getting to work). After i get my suspension done (which I am still looking for springs for a reasonable price) I want to fit the intake and then start working on more extensive engine mods. I was wondering what my options were as far as cams and final drive go? What celica parts or aftermarket parts may be a good choice for the price and what kind of work am I looking at doing. I understand that the final drive will be a bit of work but the cams should be pretty easy correct? Also, I have decided on a pacesetter header and me and my buddy are going to customize the exhasut tubing and delete the cat (probably). My other question is, if anyone has indeed swapped cams and final drive, etc, how much did it trash your fuel economy. Last question is, does anyone have any suggestions as to other fairly cheap but good ways to squeeze some more power (specifically low end torque in 2nd) out of this motor? Thanks for all your help.
Jay
